Talk-show host Seth Meyers hosted the ceremony for the first time.[3][4] Oprah Winfrey was announced as Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award honoree on December 13, 2017.[5][6] The nominees were announced on December 11, 2017, by Sharon Stone, Alfre Woodard, Kristen Bell and Garrett Hedlund.[7]
The Shape of Water received the most overall nominations of the show with seven, while Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Big Little Lies both won the most awards with four.[8]
Acclaimed actor Gary Oldman won his first Golden Globe award after a 40 year career.
In support of the #metoo movement, nearly the entire audience wore black. Many of the acceptance speeches specifically mentioned this cause, including that of Oprah Winfrey.
