Curse of the Golden Flower 2006 – Storyline / PLOT: 

The plot is based on Cao Yu’s 1934 play Thunderstorm (雷雨 pinyin: Léiyǔ), but is set in the Imperial court in ancient China. The plot could also be based on King Lear, but set in Tang Dynasty China instead of Medieval Europe.

China, Later Tang dynasty, tenth Century. On the eve of the Chong rule competition, golden flowers fill the Imperial Palace. The Emperor (Chow Yun Fat) returns unexpectedly together with his second son, blue blood Jai (Jay Chou). I was not expecting a story with such depth…The cinematography, the art direction, and the sheer enormity of the visuals were staggering. Great sword work… exquisite wire sequences… and HUGE battles – but all done with an intensity that’s stunning.
