An exiled detective is recruited to solve a series of mysterious deaths that threaten to delay the inauguration of Empress Wu.
Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame Movie – Storyline :
The film tells a fictional story featuring Di Renjie (Andy Lau), one of the most celebrated officials of the Tang dynasty, who is tasked by the Empress Wu Zetian (Carina Lau) to solve a series of inexplicable murders in which victims suddenly burst into flames.
In 689 A.D., the Empress Wu Zetian is building a 66 m high statue of Buddha for her inauguration because the first empress of China under the objections and conspiracy of the opposite clans. When the engineer liable for the development mysteriously dies by ignition , the superstitious workers are afraid since the person removed the great luck charms from the most pillar. there’s an investigation of Pei Donglai and another investigator that also dies after withdrawing the amulets. Empress Wu assigns her loyal assistant Shangguan Jing’er to release the exiled Detective Dee from his imprisonment to research with Donglai and Jing’er the mystery of the deaths. They ride during a mystic and epic adventure to unravel the mystery.
Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame Full Movie Review:
This period film has a stimulating mystery at its heart with many red herrings and twists. The story follows Detective Dee as he’s brought out of his political imprisonment to research a series of murders during the lead-up to the coronation of the primary female Emperor. There some plot inconsistencies and problems, but they’re small. The lead actors are all excellent , including Andy Lau, Bingbing Li, Carina Lau, and Chao Deng. beat all, it is a compelling film not overloaded with action-for-the-sake-of-action that appears at a stimulating period in China’s history.
