Iskander: Shadow of the River – Storyline :

Maroni the ghosts of the river – Chloé, is a young gendarme appointed in Cayenne in Guyana . Her teammate is Joseph Dialo, originally from Guyana and well acquainted with the culture and traditions of this territory. While Dialo introduces Chloe to the specificities of this department, a couple of metropolitan is found savagely murdered on a sailboat adrift on the Maroni River . Their 9 year old son is missing. Chloe and Dialo investigate. The only witness is a young Bushinengue .

Review of Iskander: Shadow of the River S01

Two mismatched cops, a cop with a past from the large city, during this case Paris, and therefore the refore the local cop are paired together to research the death of a husband and wife on their boat and the disappearance of their son. This leads them into the planet of Iskandar and a cult that believes they will raise the dead and exsanguinates sloths to urge high from their blood, and you thought licking toads are the oddest thanks to get high out there.

It felt considerably like Death in Paradise meets True Detective with the fish out of water confronting an other worldly cult and getting entangled in their mystic rites. The show does an excellent job of beginning with a solid grisly crime scene and traditional investigation and slowly morphing to its mystical finale.
