Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too | Storyline:
Rachel Jack and Ashley Too Full Episode: Rachel Goggins (Angourie Rice) is a teenager who has moved with her older sister Jack (Madison Davenport) and her father Kevin, the family is grieving the loss of their mother Genevieve.
Rachel looks up to pop singer and superstar Ashley O (Miley Cyrus) who promotes a new A.I. doll named “Ashley Too” replicated after her, Ashley is on antidepressants and under the control of her aunt and manager. Rachel convinces her dad to purchase the doll for her 16th birthday and eventually he does, Rachel starts confiding in “Ashley Too” while the rebellious, alternative Jack is against the idea of the doll.
Meanwhile, Ashley begins writing more music but her aunt is against the more personal direction that she intends to take and hasn’t written anything for her next album. Ashley’s aunt Catherine meets with managers who prescribe her with her medication and intend to up the dosage.
Elsewhere, Rachel considers entering a talent show under the influence of “Ashley Too” and begins practicing a dance routine to Ashley’s song as well as transforming into Ashley O herself on the night of the show. Before a concert, Ashley is coerced by her aunt after she intends on changing her appearance and also into taking antidepressants against her will. On the night of the show, Rachel falls while performing.
Black Mirror Season 5 Episode 3 (Rachel Jack and Ashley Too) Review:
I may be biased as I am both a Miley Cyrus and Black Mirror fan, but these reviews are a little harsh. Sure, it has a weak climax, but it’s still a fascinating concept. The original songs by Miley as Ashley were catchy and believable. Miley’s acting was a little unbelievably swear heavy, but in some of the more intense scenes you can really see what an actress she is. Perhaps if you’re an older viewer this is gonna be one to skip, but consider checking it out with your daughter.
