directed by Harold Ramis and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film was written by Harold Ramis, Gene Stupnitsky, and Lee Eisenberg and stars Jack Black and Michael Cera. Its story follows Zed and Oh, two hunter-gatherers who travel to the city of Sodom after being banished from their tribe. Problems quickly emerge during their journey, as they encounter several biblical figures along the way.

Year One 2009 Movie – Storyline :

Zed, a prehistoric would-be hunter, eats from a tree of forbidden fruit and is banished from his tribe, accompanied by Oh, a shy gatherer. On their travels, they meet Cain and Abel on a fateful day, stop Abraham from killing Isaac, become slaves, and reach the city of Sodom where their tribe is now enslaved. Zed and Oh are determined to rescue the women they love, Maya and Eema. Standing in their way is Sodom’s high priest and the omnipresent Cain. Zed tries to form an alliance with Princess Innana, which may backfire. Can an inept hunter and a smart but slender and diffident gatherer become heroes and make a difference?

Review of Year One (2009 Movie):

“Year One” was about what I expected, so I wasn’t disappointed. It’s juvenile, hit and miss funny, light as a feather. I was in the mood for mind candy, and that’s exactly what I got.

Jack Black and Michael Cera play Jack Black and Michael Cera, though they’re supposed to be playing primitive humans who “discover” the civilized world when they’re banished from their village. The funniest jokes are those skewering famous religious stories and characters. The least funny are those involving farting, eating sh*t and man-on-man oil rubs. Some other good actors, like Oliver Platt, Hank Azaria, Paul Rudd and Harold Ramis (who also directed), show up and are wasted to greater and lesser extents by the material. But to be too critical of a movie like this actually shows less than more cinematic knowledge. It would be like a foodie voluntarily eating at a McDonald’s and then complaining about its quality.
